When I'm really disappointed or unmotivated, I always look into the future for a sense of the Foreseeable Awesome. Sometimes that thing is irrelevant, like looking forward to your train coming when the hood you're staying in starts to feel too tough. Sometimes it's pertinent. My lesson of the year is that if you really want something, ask for it face-to-face. It's easy to say no to an email, but not so much in person.

i can't ask this prof in person; his office hours aren't public so the admin women advised that i just keep emailing him. i'm practically stalking this guy.

"oh, hi there. i, um... no, i wasn't just smelling your doorknob. i, um, just, er...you know, um, clearly this is a bad time so maybe i'll just come back later. or not. since, um, you're really busy and, um, i don't need anyone. 'k, thanks. bye!"
