Daniel had gotten the idea from her jewelry box. He'd already known what he was going to do for Vala for Christmas, but then she suddenly came up with a birthday. The knock was answered with a shrill mew, followed quickly by quick footsteps. Jack pulled the door open, but the expectant grin he wore faded quickly. The kitten in his hand squirmed and cried in protest of the fact she couldn't go out.

"Daniel. Hi," he said, obviously not expecting the man to be there.

"Jack." Daniel tried not to flinch as the grin that Jack had wilted. "If you're expecting..." And that's when he noticed what Jack had in his hand. And he may have stared a little. He reached out a hand, petting it before Jack had a chance to pull away.

"If you're expecting someone, I can go, Jack," he said, looking at the kitten and not Jack.

"No, it's okay," he shrugged. Expecting was too strong a word, really. It just seemed like certain people had a habit of coming to his new place every couple days, at least.

"First to make sure you were still alive." Daniel's eyes flicked back up to Jack's face briefly. "I saw the old place. Or where it used to be." He shrugged. "But now that I know you're still around, I was wondering if you still did jewelry."
