He'd been searching for Vala everywhere. Of course, whenever you were looking for something, or someone, they were always in the last place you looked. In this case, it happened to be the rec room. I'd only just stood up and smiled at him. "A surprise? How unexpected," I said, the fact that I wasn't surprised in the least readily apparent. "I was going to get some juice. I've seen this a dozen times. Come on," I continued, walking past him toward the kitchen. I flipped the projector on and then snatched the box from his hands on my way past.

"You've only reminded me how many times?" Daniel teased, following her into the kitchen. She hadn't actually reminded him much, but it was good to poke fun at her. Especially since she always poked back. "So are you going to open it or are we going to wait for the end of the movie?"

I laid the box aside, only because he seemed so eager. Not that I wasn't. I love presents. But it was more fun to make him squirm, any chance I got.

"Just let me get something to drink first," I replied, trying my best to sound wholly disinterested, although I'm sure my eyes gave me away.

Daniel shrugged a little and leaned against the wall, watching her get her drink. "In your own time." Okay, so maybe he was a little eager for her to see it. Things had never settled quite the same after that one night, at least in his mind, and he wanted things to be normal again.

Though what was normal, he wasn't sure.
