He'd stayed in the hut another hour after talking to Mitchell, but he needed to get away. He needed to go for a walk and clear his head. Plus, he had a present to deliver. Although she had invited Daniel to visit whenever he wished, this marked the first time he had been to her new home. Pleased, Morgan tidied the stack of her papers and set them to the corner of the desk the boys had built for her.

"The door is open, Daniel. Please come in."

She emerged from her study, hair secured in a loose knot on top of her head with a pencil, a pleasant smile curving her lips.

Daniel just looked tired. The fight had taken a lot out of him and while his temper was cooler, it didn't stop the feelings of frustration and helplessness that he felt whenever he thought about Mitchell.

He opened the door and headed inside, attempting to put on a smile so he didn't worry Morgan, although he suspected that he hadn't done a very good job.

He wasn't exactly feeling angry, anymore, but he was disappointed in himself.

Morgan knew Daniel rather too well for him to hide his emotions from her unless he tried especially hard. At the moment, he had not bothered more than a faint smile to cover his distress.

Her own smile faded instantly to a moue of concern, gaze softening to study him more thoroughly. "What is it, Daniel? Has something happened?" She gestured to the couch, inviting him to sit without wasting words on hospitality he knew was his to enjoy.

"Mitchell. It's nothing important. We just had words." If you could call the entire dissolution of their friendship merely words. It was something he was trying not to think too hard about. Instead, he sat on the couch, holding out the package in his hands. It would distract her from her purpose for a few minutes, at least.

"Here. Merry Christmas."
