Daniel sighed when he shut the door behind them. "That went well," he murmured. Except that it hadn't. Not really. It had just been a mess of thoughts and feelings made worse when Jack got drunk. He tightened the hand in Ianto's a little.

Ianto sighed himself, not letting go of Daniel's hand as he took a few steps away to pick up the discarded bottles of alcohol.

"No better or worse than whenever else he's tried to forget things," Ianto commented without energy. "How many joints had he had? Do you know?"

"Worse than when I usually try talking to him," Daniel said, shrugging. "He was only on the one, but, then, he was definitely stoned when started talking to him."

Usually when Daniel tried talking to Jack when he was in a mood like this, he managed to get somewhere. Even if it was only to get Jack to admit that he needed help.

Bottles retrieved, Ianto started along the path that would bring them home, tugging Daniel closer to him. His words did receive a lifted and disbelieving eyebrow, not so much at the 'worse' as at the 'try talking to him' part.

"He had to have had a few before," Ianto said. "The rambling usually goes on for much longer. And the singing rarely ever happens."

"What?" he asked, seeing Ianto's raised eyebrow. "Granted, I usually don't talk to him when he's stoned, but he was pretty coherent for a while, there. Very much not in a good place, though. He lost three people. Lisa, Rose, and some woman called Stacey, that I'd never before."

He sighed. "I know how I'd felt if I'd lost Jack, Crichton, and Lionel."
