gramarye1971, plus I can't sleep anyway, so I may as well.
Five things you probably never knew about me…
1) I’ve been playing golf since I was 6 years old (my dad is obsessed). Don’t think I’m good at it, just from hearing that, though. I’m crap. I’ve no consistency at all. The funny thing is, I used to play with the same girl every week during the summer’s junior golf program. For those of you who’ve never played golf, it’s a very frustrating game. Whenever we’d get frustrated on the course, we’d sing Disney songs. Hakuna Matata was a favorite. We also had a deal that the winner had to buy the loser a chocolate milkshake afterwards.
2) When I was about 3 years old, my family was in Williamsburg on vacation because my mom is a big history buff. I distinctly remember looking across at the Wren building and having this epiphany. I tugged on my mom’s sleeve and said, “Momma, that’s where *I* want to go to school.” My parents thought it was so cute that they bought me a W&M T-shirt on the spot. There’s a picture of me wearing it, eating a ginger cookie from the Raleigh Tavern Bakery that’s about as big as my head.
3) I can be really anal retentive about how I eat food. For example, if I’m eating Lucky Charms, there must be a precise ratio of marshmallows to oat cereal on every spoon. Or if I’m having mashed potatoes with dinner, every forkful will have enough potato on it that there’s none left over when the main course is done. I’ve also been known to ration out my drink so I finish the last sip right after the last bite. You get the idea.
4) I think about strange things all the time. For example:
~ looking up at the stars this summer while at an outdoor concert, I thought about the fact that all that starlight is millions of years old, and how someone else who sees the light from our sun will see it millions of years after I’m dead and gone.
~Have you ever thought that the reason opposites attract is because it’s nature’s way of spreading the genes around and preventing inbreeding?
~Time must exist differently on other planets, because if you think about it what is our measurement of time based on? Hours and minutes and seconds are just days broken down into more manageable pieces. A day is a relative thing, depending on the planet and how fast it’s tilting and what degree &c. Years, too. So time as we know it is an entirely a human construction.
I could go on, but I can sense the weird looks already…
5) I did musicals in High School. The Wiz, Little Shop, the Will Rogers Follies…Never more than a chorus girl, but boy were they ever fun. The costumes in Will Rogers were especially cool.
I'm not going to tag anyone specific, but feel free to do it if you want. I had fun with it.
In real-update news, I'm headed back to C-ville in the morning for all of 3 days before I'm home again for a lengthy Thanksgiving break. I can't believe the semester is ending already...Yikes.
