How the HELL am I supposed to organise a surprise party when the surprisee ditches our 'dinner' to go out with someone else???

That is all.

Magic?

By which I mean, "something supportive and not at all snarky."

:( Sorry, dude. It sucks that you are under such pressure. Who's she going out with? Maybe you can convince friend to bring surprisee here after?

At this point I no longer give a shit. Especially after the stupid thing with the photos. (I know it shouldn't get to me, but it still does, especially the fact that after I told her I was upset her response was "whatever").

If she wants to ditch me I'll get the stupid balloon and cake her mother wants and drop it off at her dorm room, then give her the change.

Yeah, that photo thing was seriously bitchy. And you do have a right to be pissed off about how she handled the whole thing, seeing as how she basically stepped on your feelings. I think your plan is good, to get her something festive yet perfunctory (which is my word of the month) and let her do what she will. I mean, there's no point planning a surprise party if she's not going to come, and you did your best (fulfilling your obligation to her mother, in my book).

And it's still a surprise if I show up in her room with a cake and balloon, or have her can-mate sneak me in, right? I know I'm not being especially good-friendly, but can't really afford to worry about this, given that in the next 13 days I have approximately 49 pages of essay to write...
