I should come up with a proper comment here, because I've liked this chapter a lot, but my brain is not cooperating. However there is something that I do need to say.

This is pretty much my whole view on SPN season 4. Dean has a brother in Sam, a father figure in Bobby. But friends? Not that many, uh?

But now he has Castiel and I think this friendship goes both ways and it's one of the reasons I've liked season 4 so much. And you have nailed it here. So well, what else is new? I totally loved it.

YESSSSS. I could go on for literally ages and ages, until my teeth fall out and the earth itself gives the fuck up and stops existing, and I will NEVER BE DONE SQUEEING ABOUT THIS.

Even if people don't ship Dean/Cas is a slashy way (which, well, why the fuck wouldn't you and are we seriously talking about the same show?, but I digress), the least they can do is appreciate the profound bond of friendship they share, when really it's a luxury neither of them has ever had.

I mean, I don't really see the slash in the show, you know? What with the whole thing with the supposedly sexless-angels and all that (and there's Jimmy to remember, as well). But I did choose to slash them because:

1 - You can take the other approach to all those looks, invasions of personal space, hush-hush confessions... and it's so ridiculously easy to see them being in love that you don't even really need to look

Thank god Castiel is out of Purgatory! The Castiel parts of the past chapters were just excruciating to read and I don't think I could have taken much more, which is a credit to what a good job you did in creating that environment and in your characterization of Lucifer. It was a painful experience to read it! I'm just extremely relieved that whatever comes next, hopefully the Purgatory part is over

Thank you! I'm glad you like Lucifer's characterization. I was definitely trying to sort of break away from the mold that's been created for him in fic. I hope I succeeded. :)

I'm glad I took my time, too! Sucks I won't meet my proposed deadline, but I think it will come out better in the end for it.

Dean's kind of started to laugh at all the people who have referred to him in the past as the strong one.

Because while Sam is mending, Dean can feel himself eroding.

THIS. YES. I loved this.

And the whole thing with Dean and Sam at the cabin when they were young? Oh, that was so beautifully written and wistful and heart-wrenching.

Also, this:

Castiel was the perfect shoulder, just the pillar of alien strength Dean needed, and he sacrificed and found loopholes and gave up everything he was, never asked for anything in return, and... why?

Because Dean asked him to.

And then Dean noticing the handprint is almost gone and panicking . . . gah, that about killed me, I so felt his loss and desperation and pain.

And and then all the Castiel bits ZOMGYOUKEEPHURTINGTHEPRETTYANGEL, and then Jimmy showing up and Lucifer IWANTHIMDEADHEISONESICKBASTARD, and then Dean taking care of Cas ZOMGHE'SSOGENTLEWITHHIMHELOVESHIMSO, and and . . . . *flails*
