handmedowngenes: 'Once upon a time.' Eve thought, staring bemusedly at a poster in the subway. She never remembered having been read kids stories, but the sentiment was still there. Like a long distant memoy trying to joust her eyes with a long colorful pointy stick. And yet there she was minding her own little business, transfixed to a brightly painted scene as Aya took her time in coming to pick her up.
"C'mon Aya." Eve sighed, finally peeling her gaze from the poster to look at her bubbly pink wrist watch. Seven past Three. She was late. Or was she? The sudden high volume of the stations intercom, tore her train of thought into itty bitty metal shards. 'Wall St. Station to Chinatown now boarding.'
"Oh no." She'd missed her stop. And now alone she'd have to find her way back... Made oh so more difficult when the very ground starting to shake.
theviralsource: He was at a train station. The last time he'd been in one had been when he'd died. That old part of himself anyway. The memories of such an event were floating in his head like a migraine that wouldn't go away no matter how much medication you took to ease the pain. Memories that didn't necessarily belong to him per say, but still a part of him.
Alex had only come here to search for any infected who happened to be on their way out of town. The threat of passing on the virus was extremely high and once they'd left on the train, catching them would prove futile. Whatever city they planned on going to would be doomed as the contagion would spread like wildfire. Alex would see to it that they didn't leave. Would kill them on the spot if he had to...
And then the intercom went off, followed by a low thundering sound that brought small tremors with it. And that's when he saw her. A young blonde on the search for someone; the anticipation of being greeted flushed through her facial emotions.
handmedowngenes: Keeping her barings was difficult, but thanks to a nearby railing, not impossible. She managed to keep on fer meet for the duration of the tremmor, looking to the ceiling as if waiting for it to collapse. Thankfully it didn't.
'That was close.'
But something else, something close didn't seem to make her feel so lucky lurked just beyond her level of resonance. It was the prick of hair at the back of her neck, the distant ticking over of heatbeats. It was like being watched, and not just by the other concerned patrons looking her way either.
Right then she really needed Aya.
theviralsource: The train approached hurriedly as its breaking system began to slow the transport down but not before almost taking the poor girl off her feet. She'd been caught off guard; preoccupied with finding her other half. Had she been too close to the edge then the train would've taken her under the railing.
But then her face filled with fear. A fear that didn't come with the rumbling of the ground but with something else.
Him.
She could sense him watching her. He could sense her knowing she was being watched.
She wasn't infected, Alex could tell that immediately, but something else about her had him watching her like a hawk. Something that screamed 'more than human.'
handmedowngenes: With not much time to think, the small blonde checked her pockets for quarters, and finding several, scoped the large platform for a phone. In her mind if she got to Aya it meant she was safe. Safe from the dangers down the line, safe from the stares she was getting from several other people.
Bee-lining it for the nearest payphone, she kept her shoulders hunched, her eyes to the floor to make herself the smallest she could. Feeling just like a little kid hiding under the sheets from the boogey man, Eve fumbled for the quarters, loosing two of them to the floor as she punched in Aya's number.
'P...pick up.... please.'
theviralsource: As she walked away, Alex followed suit like a predator stalking its prey. To say he was interested in her would be a good assumption, but his curiosity ran wild as to what she could be. Although, maybe she was human after-all and something was wrong about his speculation, but no human had ever given off such a strange feeling, so he told himself otherwise.
Staying within sight of the blonde, Alex maneuvered his way through the crowd; keeping himself just out of sight. Granted, had the girl looked hard enough then surely she would've seen him, but Alex made it a priority to blend into the crowd; be seen as nothing more than a civilian waiting for a train.
He came closer now. Watched as she dialed a number and waited anxiously for someone to pick up. A part of Alex felt bad as she continued to wait as the dial kept ringing and ringing. No one was home.
handmedowngenes: Evident by the way in which she slammed the reciever back on the hook, the loud metal clink stated that no one was coming to take the young girl home. She'd just have to figure it out herself.
'Think Brea think.' She chastised those mental cogs, closing two frightened blue eyes to get a better feel of the place and her situation. Yes she was being watched. She could pinpoint the feeling to a few, but too scared to look back, she merely assumed it was one of the boys behind her.
There was only two options. Go it alone, fid her way home. Or find someone close for help. She chose the later, abandoning the quarters in favor of a brisk walk towards the information desk. Sure she had to make her way up two sets of stairs and past a set of foul smelling set of bathrooms, but determined on the path she set out as if on a mission.
theviralsource:He didn't know where she was going, but the more she walked, the less groups of people there were. Good. The less there was, the easier this would be. He had no intention of trapping her in a corner though -after-all, threatened animals were known to attack- but he had several questions for her. And demanding, or complacent, she would answer them.
Granted, cornered or not, Alex had no idea what she was capable of. If his intuition of her was correct, then he may or may not be in for a good fight. He was ready either way.
Soon there was only the two of them; the absence of humanity should give anyone the creeps, especially if they knew someone was behind them. Then, he spoke.
"What are you?"
handmedowngenes: "Hunh?" Frozen mid stride, one foot still just touching down as the heel of another was arched for a quick step foward, Eve held her breath for several seconds while adrenaline and brain argued the fine points of fight versus flight. They could hardly make a stead fast choice right now, but made the small teenager turn on her heel, and face a rather tall man.
"I...." He'd be capable of doing almost anything... and with no witnesses, Oh boy, she was feeling hot again. Her forehead, her hands, her legs. All burning with some kind of energy. "I.... my names Eve. Who are you? Why have you been y'know.... following me? I...i... If you touch me I'l scream..."
theviralsource: Fear. Just like a feral animal. Only, something felt odd about it. Warm, no hot. Radiating off of her in waves he felt feet away from her. He stood his ground, watching her intently as she spoke. Just a child in his eyes, but he could feel the heat that seemed to have so much power behind it.
He stepped closer now, but in the end, he'd never lay a finger on her. If she attacked, or proved threatening, then maybe one of his claws would.
"I didn't ask your name. I asked what you were."
handmedowngenes: "What I am?" Every step he'd take, she'd match it. Step for step, inch for inch, even if she wasn't making any progress in widening the gap between herself and the stranger. It was an unconcious, but maticulous step in survival.
"I'm... 13..." She stated, unsure, eyes shimmering green as they begged him not to hurt her. "I'm a human.... A...and I'm... I don't know."
Whatever he wanted to hear.
theviralsource: And with each passing step they took toward one another, the heat only seemed to intensify. Definitely not human. Not entirely. "You don't know?" He repeated her words with a subtle hint of questioning that sounded mostly like he'd be mocking her confusion, "you're lying."
Or maybe she wasn't. Alex waited to hear her response.
Something within Alex's own body began to warm, like his blood was beginning to boil, but he put that concern on the back of his mind and focused on the girl instead.
handmedowngenes: Confused, still obviously feeling the same unfamiliar sensations as the dark stranger, Eve's frightened doe eyes turned steely, her fingers so warm she couldn't help but shake them by her sides to relieve the heat stress.
"I.. don't know..." She spoke up, finally raising her voice in an effort to attract attention. "What.. do you want me to say?"
Short running out of space, her mitochondria were making plans. They knew. The intricately knew this being infront of host was not human. Not even close. No less a danger though. The heat he was feeling, was about to get alot worse.
theviralsource: He glanced down and saw the slight movement in her fingers as the heat in his own body began to grow with every passing second. It was as though he were starting to feel the signs of exhaustion; his body was in need of water, but Alex wasn't thirsty. He wasn't even in an area that would cause such a dramatic change in his body. In fact, the train station was at a stable temperature, so these feelings of being overheated where confusing to him..
"The truth," he responded and finished with "Eve," after he noticed that her own voice had risen.
Now the heat had gotten to him, and feeling like he was going to fall from the effects, Alex forced himself to stand. It now felt as though something were trying to take control of his hands; maneuver his body and force them to change when he himself had not intended of doing so.
Was this her doing?
