V's offer to join him at the museum was the opportunity of a lifetime. Though Orihime was reluctant to accept at first, knowing that she was a big tangled knot of wrong, she had to admit that her masked friend was right. There were books and films and displays of all kinds, and the overload of positive brain food would be good for her. So she smiled, and agreed, on the condition that she recover enough of her physical strength first so as not to be a burden to V. There was a lot to do in the aftermath of the fight against the Aeon, and she was loathe to keep a much-needed Ashura chained to her side.
As soon as Orihime's body had recovered enough to allow her to stand, she walked. She walked and walked and walked, overwhelmingly pleased to be able to use her legs again. Her limbs were still gangly and gaunt, so her rest periods were frequent. But as soon as she regained her energy, she walked as far and as long as she could. Her deteriorated muscles needed to be built back up again, and she was determined to fix at least this much of her. She also ate a lot, frequently raiding the fridge. She was still shy of Bending food, since anything she tried to create via Bending came out...tainted...for lack of a better term. There was always something dark and horrible in even her most minor efforts, sometimes to lesser degrees, sometimes requiring a lot of fire to kill it and kill it fast.
Orihime emerged from the fridge with a small armload of food, a bagel hanging from her mouth as she nudged the door closed. There was a note fixed upon the fridge. Orihime blinked, and squinted, reading it. V was out for the day?
PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC!!!!
She shut her eyes and gave her head a quick shake, chiding herself for breaking out into a sweat over a one-day absence. That was just pitiful. She cast her senses about to see where he had gone, but couldn't find him in the city. There was a trace of him lingering in the Northern District, so she could hazard a guess as to where he'd gone.
"...Oh..."
The sound was muffled by the bagel as she tipped her head back and stared at the ceiling. After a long period of silence, she shuffled out of the kitchen, eating the bagel quietly as she wandered.
She paid more attention to the little personal touches in the museum that spoke more of V than other things. She took note of the velvet ropes, the billings for plays and movies, the film projector. Though she was a little hesitant to poke around his dressing room, he hadn't expressly forbidden her from looking inside. She was glad for that, since the cozy little room with the rich maroon drapes drew out a faint smile from her. The room looked like something that belonged to a movie star. Even the bust of Shakespeare caused her to feel a quiet pang of nostalgia. Ichigo had loved Shakespeare too. There were pictures and postcards jammed into the corners of the lighted mirror. She noted them, but didn't examine them too closely, in case they were very personal.
Quietly she withdrew from the room, closing the door behind her, and leaned against it. She sank to the floor, holding a half-eaten plum, and knuckled her chin in thought. V would probably be in a somber mood when he returned. Maybe she should give him something good to return to, so she could express her thanks for all he'd done for her and continued to do. He deserved nothing less. She polished off the plum, then toddled back to the room he'd given her, and started working.
