Fangirl thinks far too hard about tv series, film at eleven

I have lately been enjoying Phineas and Ferb (it's totaly rionaleonhart's fault) but due to the kind of show it is- i.e utterly insane- my mind is brimming with questions. So many questions! So many, in fact, that I've decided to set them out here for future reference, as it is from questions like these that fic is made and it's nice to have a list. (I do this ( Read more... )

lol nerd, wait i have a question, phineas and ferb

This entry is an excellent entry and made me grin a great deal.

Where do they get the money for their projects?

YES EXACTLY. Aren't you a little young to be able to afford all this, Phineas and Ferb? Yes. Yes, you are.

Regarding Doofenshmirtz's doctorate: I'm fairly certain that he, er, bought it off the Internet somehow. And I think you find out how Phineas and Ferb got Perry in Across the 2nd Dimension, if you haven't seen that!

What language do they even speak in Gimmelstump

I think Dr Doofenshmirtz's father speaks German in a flashback somewhere, and of course their surname is German-based.

What on earth do the two of them get out of ordinary school?

...what an excellent question. Hmm.

I've wondered who taught Merlin to read, too. Maybe his mother, as she can write? But how on Earth did she learn to do that?

Oh yeah, and high five for getting Bandit into P&F.

I don't think she trusts my recommendations for tv any more after Heroes. :p

I'm trying not to be too smug about my glorious victory, but it's tricky. (Why would anyone not trust you? You're a Phineas and Ferb fan with Friendship is Magic icons and therefore your taste is obviously brilliant. Although admittedly I've never seen Heroes.)

...I just read your comment below, and you're absolutely right: why doesn't Candace ever call upon the many other eyewitnesses? I can't believe this never occurred to me before.

I also have X-Men icons.

And to be fair, Bandit got me into FIM.

It just seems like everyone in town knows about what Phineas and Ferb does except for their mum. And as for the busting itself, why would the mum be mad? her sons are geniuses?

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to get lost in James McAvoy's eyes.

The only one of those which I think is ever actually answered is where they got Perry from. As for the accent, some people just don't lose them.

Also in one episode to a flashback in Gimmelstrump (AKA Latveria) Doof's father definately says "nein" although that just raises more questions than answers. And also added to the nationality thing, Doof's grandfather as named Jose Doofenshmirtz (apparently it's a "long story).

There are so many questions though, I agree. In a couple of episodes the dad gets involved in the crazy schemes. So, what? he's okay with his sons building flying carpets and monster trucks and just never mentions it to his wife?

And Jeremy has seen a lot of P&F's inventions, why can't Candice just get him, or Stacey for that matter, to back her up and confirm to her mum that the inventions really exist?

Why can't Doof ever catch a break?

Dag nabbit Bandit, now you've got me doing it!!!

I never thought about the fact that their dad seems completely cool with Phineas and Ferb's activities (or the fact that he never told his wife 'oh, today I participated in a monster truck rally with the kids. It was fun!'). Man. A+ parenting there, Mr Flynn.

Mwahaha! THE QUESTIONS WILL NEVER STOP.

I just have to say:

Does Anders speak Anderfels-ian?

Bioware need to answer this. Immediately. In great detail and at great length. (Which is to say: I'd never even asked myself this before, and now I have it's become my new favorite thing. I mean, I already love the glimpses of other languages we've seen in the Dragon Age universe, but oof, Anders speaking Anderfels-ian...)

I could write a book on my questions about Anders and language. I mean. He was was taken to the Circle as a teenager so he would probably remember quite a bit of his first language but he's completely lost his accent (I like to imagine that bitty!Anders had a really thick German accent, hence the nickname that's followed him for the rest of his life) and never talks about it: as opposed to, say, Fenris, who breaks into Tevinter when he's angry, fighting or about to fight (sidebar: Tevinter is totally a language of violence for Fenris, and storywise that's awesome). Has Anders deliberately blocked it all out? If he has, why did he keep the nickname? If he hasn't, does he consider it secondary to his 'mage' identity? Does he call Karl, and later Hawke, Anderfels-ian endearments? Does he sometimes dream in his first language and get disturbed by it? How does Justice interact with it? Does he approve or disapprove?

How long is it before I give in and write a fic about all this?

Heck, if I knew anything about Germanic languages, I'd probably steal some of those ideas for myself. (Or at least daydream about them vigorously.)

This is way too adorable an image. But yes, bitty!Anders in the Circle! This also raises the question of when Anders picked up his second language. Was he bilingual going into the Circle, or did he have to be taught? (This question is somewhat complicated by the fact that, for obvious reasons, everyone in Dragon Age speaks the same language). But the question of why Anders appears to have kept the nickname but not the cultural identity does raise questions about what, exactly, is his relationship with the Anderfels. His name is probably the most overt connection and even that is something with its roots in the Circle, not in the Anderfels. I guess you could make a compelling argument for Anders being a post-Circle identity. But I digress.

Oh gosh, yes on ( ... )

I discussed this a bit on tumblr and somebody pointed out that only Anders' family is said to be from the Anderfels, and Anders himself could have been born in Ferelden, but I kind of prefer to think of them as immigrants because you don't get a nickname from something your parents are, especially because his parents presumably weren't around when he got it. It also explains the 'taken to the Circle later' thing quite neatly. Sooo I expect he was bilingual but probably not massively, and the trauma of being taken away exacerbated that for a time and he got quiet and known as 'the Anders kid' which evolved into 'Anders'.

I think this fic will have to be written before the questions consume my brain. Such hard work.
