I know it doesn't come close to what is happening in the Ukraine, but this is very sad news on a personal level. :( I have had my LJ for 19 years now. :( Hugs, Jon
You barely beat me out: 24 April 2004. 18 years next month on LJ. I really hated seeing it sold to Russian interests, but when the servers moved on to Russian territory, I moved my blog to DW.
I have a DW account with the same name since a long long time but never use it as I find it hard to use. I don't crosspost and see no reason. What happened in the past, is the past. I had a former lj-account and never check on that one either so read what was going on in my past, so I'm sure I won't do that with my entries in this account either.
We'll see what happens with lj and we'll go with the flow.
I find it interesting that you find DW hard to use. That's just an observation, not in any way a critique - everybody uses software differently.
There's an old saying that 90% of the people who use Microsoft Word use 10% of the features. What is not said is that they use a different 10%, and that's why it's become the bloatware that it is today. I'm actually pretty primitive in how I use word processors and spreadsheets, but I use them very well as I've been using them heavily for almost 40 years.
Just like people saying that the average person uses 10% of their brain. First off, it's factually wrong, second, the part of your brain that's really active changes, depending on what you're doing.
There are things in DW that I do find difficult, I can't figure out how to add an RSS feed, which drives me nuts! Then again, that's not a far drive. :-)
