The lotion thing is how I'm kicking that same habit right now. Keep bottles EVERYWHERE and it really does help!

Oh, and also, it's important to note that philosophers are a) products of their eras and b) often completely wrong. While you're likely to tread ground that's already been covered if you haven't read the great books, you're also likely to approach things with a fresh perspective.

I'm also working on being good at hugs. In France we don't hug, it's highly intimate, so I was used to kissing on the cheeks with everyone.
Now that I'm in the UK, I can't just kiss anyone or they'll get weirded out. So now it's a strange mixture of hand waving, hand shaking, or awkward hugs.

I think I'll have to read the Hunger Games at some point, it seems like everyone loves it. And the Uglies trilogy is amazing! I just discovered there'll be a movie by the end of 2012 too :D

I enjoy the concept of Uglies, but the writing style annoys me because it's just so simple. I know it's intended for teens, so it makes sense for it to be written that way, but I still find it harder to get into than The Hunger Games (which was also intended for teens, but was written a bit more interestingly). I'm a few chapters into Uglies, and it's interesting, but it's not as much of a page-turner as the hunger games was.

I liked the simple writing style because it made easier for me, since I had been reading books in English for just a year I think.
I do believe there are many aspects of the book which could have been more researched though.

Pick up The Knife of Never Letting Go, then. It's also in that dystopian YA genre with Hunger Games, very sharp, very well written & tense.

"figure out non-awkward ways to say hello and goodbye to people"

You should just live here in Montreal then, where we're required to kiss hello and goodbye with no other options given lest you want to come off as rude lol.

I think I did that exactly once while I was living there. No one seemed to notice.
