Oh.. I never said he was admirable or a good person. :)

My take on it is more that he's a troll and so can say anything he wants since he has no investment in the outcome - and since he makes money by getting people riled up, he'll play to the easier audience.

Unless, of course, he actually DOES believe what he says in line of course with his real "day job", but doesn't take himself SO seriously that he can't laugh at himself and what people think of him once in awhile.

I'm willing to bet Rush is definitely on the conservative side - but not to the degree he makes himself out to be.

In the early 90s, when I lived in Tallahassee, and the only talk radio was conservatard talk, I listened to Limbaugh.

He's clearly an entertainer. He's dishing up "humor" on his show for an audience who can't see the joke of it all.

What's scary is that he's the sort of entertainer who can inspire extremist violence, and fall back on the "I was just joking" excuse.
