Children of Earth started off great, then they went to extremes of contrivance to make it even darker than it already was. After that, and Russell T. Davies making some comment about making this one even darker, I didn't even bother tracking it down.
Children of Earth: Let's have a miniseries to wrap all the loose ends up ... we'll blow everything up and kill all the remaining Torchwood crew except for Gwen and Jack -- and Jack will leave Earth (forever!) because it's just too painful for him to stay around. At least we get to put closure on it!
Miracle Day: Wait, they'll pay us *how* much to make another season?
Oh, and it's episode five of *ten*. I really liked Torchwood, but I'm having trouble slogging through Miracle Day. The story's uneven, the writing is crap, and half the time the cast doesn't really seem to want to be there. I'm getting tired of waiting to see if the plot holes are actually intentional and meaningful or if they're just great big honking holes in the plot.
It reminds me a lot of the third (and last) season of Beauty and the Beast.
