What I actually said was, "Thats how we auditioned in college, and I always preferred it to monologues" (because my track record with monologue auditions is far worse)

Of course I don't have a trick; I read slowly but have really high-level reading comprehension (still miss a lot of subtle jokes though). I'm smart; you can't learn that. But essentially I'm good for the same reason anyone's good at something: practice.

I've done a lot of cold reads, which will help if I ever get a chance to read for someone with money.
