Dave and I have gotten so many complements from random strangers, waiters, waitresses, etc. out at restaurants and other public places because our little one knows what behavior is expected of her in public places.
We have one set of friends that we will NOT go out to dinner with them and their kids because they have no rules for their children and we were so embarrassed at how they let their children behave. So picnics or events at their house but nowhere out in public.

Kidding. While she's a bundle of energy, she does know that when someone says "no", they mean it. And that's the way everyone's kid should be. :)

This was all before he was 5. If an area was too much for him, we left. Easy Peasy. It rarely happened because he literally went everywhere and had learned how to behave out and about.
Ex #2 had a LOT of control over the raising and upbringing of our 2nd and it shows. His excuse for everything from tantrums to shoplifting was *kids will be kids* and obviously I didn't know better or else I would've raised Robert The Same Way.
