I may not have said this recently, because I've been too busy panicking about the bits that didn't work, but Futureproof seriously kicks arse as a story.  Like, there are so many amazing moments.  So many wonderful characters, with amazing, human motivations.  So many awesome plot complications, little bits of worldbuilding that first seem

It sounds like you're doing an amazing job, even with the bits that don't sound quite right. And after all, if it was all perfect, Pear would have nothing to do ;)

Thank you! :) I've just counted it up, and I've got just five scenes I feel need rethinking rather than just polishing in next few chapters. Only five! They're not even that dodgy except in my mind. Then it's a straight run to the end. This is really, really doable if I can get my mind right.

And you are absolutely right, I need to leave some things for Pear to do apart from tell me how wonderful I am! ;)
