The Wrong Kind of Fic

I'm trying to take a quick break from Futureproof to work on the second in my Transport series, tentatively titled "The Wrong Kind of Snow", in which an asexual Sherlock takes the next step in a sexual relationship with John.  It's a series that's close to my heart, because reasons, and it's frustrating me that it keeps diving off in a direction I ( Read more... )

You can do it! You can! But yeah. Write it, then go back and obsess over it. At least, that's how I do it. Because at least then it's out there, right?

Thank you! *admires your pompoms*

My inner editor activating early is something I mostly live with, because I can never write three words in a row without editing two of them, but sometimes it ties me too far up in knots and I need to kick it out the door. Usually accompanied by a blog post like this to exorcise the weasels. :) And you're right, it really is so much easier once I've got it out--well, mostly it is, futureproof puts lie to that--but if I ever do make it to the point I can just do that in the first place and obsess afterwards, I'll know I've made it! ;)

Getting the show not tell balance is always hard - in my case how does the angsty miserable character whose POV I'm writing from actually realise that their partner is having a problem if they don't say something (currently I'm cheating and having a third party say it). And with Sherlock I would expect him to be saying things at times, because that's who he is. But you can do it - just get those words down.

And if you want a pair of eyes to glance through it, I'm happy to help.

Thanks for the cheerleading. :) Mmm, it's always fun reading something where there's a limited POV character telling one story while showing the other story in the background, that's my favourite of writing. I'm also having a third party break the communication barrier--I don't think that's cheating, as long as you've let your reader in on the secret a bit earlier ( ... )

Oh, I like asexual!Sherlock fic - I don't consider myself asexual but (no matter how much smutt I may write) I don't really have an interest in sex in real life, it clearly doesn't feel as good to me as to other people (which is some kinda of deep-seated unconscious mental thing I know, but what can you do) so I feel a lot of connection to the well-written asexual fics. Especially with SH stuff, because I'm like Holmes in the way that I get super fixated on things and people think I lack social skills.

What if you write a talk-filled one, then write another one without any dialogue in it at all? ; D
