Milestones

I spent a few minutes this evening updating my word count spreadsheet, which had recently fallen by the wayside, and I'm very glad I did.

At a total of 6K words, posting The Wrong Kind of Snow has put me over two somewhat related milestones.  I'm now up to 104,823 words of fiction I've written this year, which is, like woah ( Read more... )

I'm so pleased you managed to post your Sherlock fic. 6K for a flashworks is very impressive. And good luck for Futureproof - you're almost there.

Also, Sherlock and honey?

Thank you very much, and thanks so much for your help despite a busy evening. :) I'll take all the luck I can get with Futureproof! Managed to hammer out a first version of version of one of the shorter missing scenes last night while my brain was half shut down from sleep deprivation. I dread to see what it looks like today, but hopefully it's a start!

And yes, the prompt does seem rather fitting, doesn't it? I've never written any honeylock, so the field's wide open for me. :) Something short this time, though!!! ;) Will you be adding another installment to your retirement series?

Having just finished "A Taste of Honey" two days before the new prompt was announced I was slightly miffed. Had I known a few days earlier I could have added another chapter. Instead of which I'm going with that other character who loved honey, Winnie-the-Pooh (and added a bit of Holmes to it).

Oooh Winnie-the-Pooh sounds like a perfect fit, I look forward to seeing it. :)

That's a ton of words! Every time I sit down to write a new fic, I always crank out about 300 before it feels finished and the rest of the time is spent going over what I wrote a million times. I spend 2-3 days desperately trying to finish it and it doesn't really go anywhere, then I get sick of it and post it and every time my wife goes "what are you complaining about, it's not a bad fic" : /

...So if I were to keep that up for a whole year, it'd be 36,500 words a year! Still nowhere near you! lol. I think I'll have a goal to write 1 drabble every 3 days since it seems I can at least keep this kind of pace.

Erg, I sympathise with your pain of not being able to produce fics of the length you want, even if my problem is quite the reverse: I sit down to write something short, and while I write quite slowly (usually <200 words per hour) the blasted things just won't *finish* without masses and masses of words and six thousand words and three days without sleep later I'm holding my head in my hands going 'will this thing EVER be finished!?!' It takes a very special idea for me to be able to feel that sensation of it coming to a conclusion in under 1000 words--but there's really not much way to force a fic to be any other length than it wants, at least not that I've found.

I totally think you should do that! Even if it's not much, committing to doing it regularly really adds up, and I've got so much better at just getting things out over the course of this year. Like. So Much Better.
