Last night my wife told me about a new "flying fox" that was discovered in The Philippines. And through my friend stauros who posted it in his LJ, here is a picture of the new type of fruit bat.
I've always loved bats and have been fascinated with them. I love going to see them at any zoo. I'm guessing some are afraid because of the vampire bats and the fear that they will bite humans for their blood when in reality they only eat the blood of other mammals. If others knew more about them and their behavior, then they would be less likely to be afraid.
Well, some places, bats carry rabies, and that's a good reason to give them some room. Especially if we're talking Third World, where anti-rabies medicine may be in lethally short supply.

It's a small little bugger, too! Is that a baby that the guy's holding or an adult? o.O

I think that God pretty much outweighs their opinion. ;-)

Bats are so beautiful, I don't understand why some people seem to be afraid of them.
(I'm here via hearmemeep's journal, btw.)
