Stephen Hawking recently spoke about his desire for more funding for manned space missions and bases on the moon and Mars. He wants .25 of the world's GDP to be spent on this, mostly to ensure the long-term survival of the human race. Reading an article on this talk in New Scientist , I came upon this awesomeness

there is a fourth possibility - that there is life out there intelligent enough to observe us and decide they want nothing to do with our species. :p
