I have used Clearwire for 2 years. The first year in my old neighborhood was great. After I moved into a new neighborhood, the signal dropped significantly and I couldn't get a strong one except for at night. It became too unreliable and I've switched to DSL.
The thing is, if you get Clearwire and it doesn't work well, or there's someone in your neighborhood with a wireless that drowns you out, it's a bitch to get out of the contract (3 months canx fee or about $120). You could have it for 6 months and then it goes wonky and they're still going to charge you that fee. Every now and then on Craigslist you'll see people who are trying to trade off the end of their contracts.
I'm very happy now with AT & T DSL (normally; today it's being cranky), and it's cheaper, and there's no long-term contract. If you can get DSL I'd suggest that. Comcast is an evil empire and Clearwire is going that way.
I researched clearwire quite a bit when we moved into the new house and were looking at other options.
I read report after report of people complaining about the service not working and that they only give you 7 days to get out of the contract, afterwards you're stuck for 2 years or you have to pay quite a big fee.
We ended up going with RoadRunner again, and that was a mistake - after the 6th tech was sent out and they tried offering us the 3rd replacement modem, I told them to go screw themselves and went with AT&T DSL.
While I'm not in agreement with many of AT&Ts business decisions, the DSL connection has worked great.
As a side note, we also went with DirectTV over Time Warner for cable TV, and have been very happy with that decision as well.
Anyways, long time no see Fred - I've tried emailing you a few times but had no luck getting a reply! Drop me a line - email address is in my profile here.

But in this economy... "MEH" is not a bad idea.
