I have come to the conclusion that, barring some extreme examples, all non-Macish laptops are the same. I am probably buying an HP DV9825NR. This is not to be confused with the DV9815NR which has more of this but less of that and that and that ( Read more... )

I dunno, that 40 lb cat was fairly interesting, especially since it turned out to be in good health otherwise.

I miss my little broken ibook, though my ibm thinkpad does what I need pretty well.

I really wanted to get a Mac just to have the experience of using one - but I was afraid I would have trouble using it w/ work stuff

It really depends on the work stuff. I even managed to do vb6 and .NET programming due to emulators :-) But I do understand the concern, not everything windows can be done on macs yet, though it does seem like the gap is getting smaller.

Well... there IS Alienware.

But, yeah. HP has done well here at the office. However, I caution you against the living zombie hell that is Vista.

Perhaps you are a candidate for Linux? :)

Again, I am concerned about my company's proprietary software working correctly.

Won't Parallells run Windows non-Vista OS on the Mac? That way, you're guaranteed to have no problems running software.

Just do your best to either get a XP downgrade or a disk to reinstall.

Best Buy will downgrade my machine for about $400. From what I've read I may be OK since this is one of the newer 64-bit machines and will have 4 G of memory. It also has a 360 G hard drive, builtin camera, CD/DVD burner w/ labeler and 17 inch screen.

It also has an sensor that detects loose and drunk women. An alarm goes off and the screen flashes. Please don't come near it when I'm blogging.
