xray_spex and I started catching up on True Blood, the HBO show. Its pretty damned weird, but also fairly well written. I'm enjoying it, I think lower middle class southern culture and vampires makes for some really interesting potential, and much of that is being exploited quickly and smartly

I am loving True Blood. Of course, it has an excess of sex since it's HBO but there is a decent amount of sex in the novels too. You should try reading the novels, it might make you feel a little better about how things are going. Though the first 2-3 novels have a small problem. It is blatantly obvious that Charlaine Harris is completely unable to keep her own continuity straight. Which is appalling considering how short the novels are. Things do get much better though after she hired a continuity editor.

Well, Rogue does point out on one occasion early on that all anyone thinks about is sex.

Sounds like she has the classic (and yet painfully annoying to an unpublished author) JK Rowling/Laurell K Hamilton "problem" of having found an audience for an idea before becoming a good enough writer to properly share it

Also they did the continuity thing in the series also, with Sam thinking in full sentences an episode before Sookie tells him he thinks in stream of consciousness.

True Blood sounds pretty interesting. I swear, I really do need to watch more TV; I hadn't even heard about the show until I read this post. Redneck vampires - finally, vampires I can relate to, haha.

So far its compelling enough to keep my interest... there are several things we watch to fill the TV time between episodes of Heroes and Lost... sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't.

So we were just channel surfing and caught a "best nude scenes of 2008," and Mr. Skin's number one nude scene was from True Blood. I would never have heard of the show except for this blog.
