I decided to do my Thesis in the summer, since I have to be there taking Spanish anyway. The more I think about it, the less I want to do anything about literature. I started out thinking that the best way to prove my writing skills is to pick a difficult topic and pair with a teacher with high standards; my personal enjoyment of the topic should ( Read more... )

I would not be so quick to write off an idea. Everything has been written about, talked about, thought about. The only difference between them, from an artistic perspective, is how they are delivered ( ... )

True enough, but this was an idea I hadn't ever encountered before. My story is pretty different in execution, setting, character; in fact, every way except the base premise. But there's something to be said for originality, and I feel like I've lost that.

And the fact that Carey uses the idea much more brilliantly than I ever could have. I'm going to lend you the book to see what you two think of it (if I ever get it back from Jay).

But the original draft of the story didn't have any of that in there, and wasn't the least bit metafictional. It had evolved from something else. So I'll just have to let it evolve more, I guess.

And if it makes you feel any better, I also played Splinter Cell: Conviction pretty heavily. I even went Achievement Hunting on both, which I almost never do. And between those two, I was reminded how intensely irritating it is to not be able to opt out of cinematics. Fucking RAGE.
