Just got home from a "special advance screening" of Battle: Los Angeles. I had no idea what it was going to be about, it was just Robin going, "my Dad got tickets for tomorrow, wanna go?" so I did

All I knew was it was about aliens in LA XD I had the thought it was like District 9 meets Independence Day or something? I dunno XD But hey, if it was good, maybe I'll check it out on my vacation :) Was it as gorey as District 9? >.>
I did get a District 9 vibe from the style, it made me want to watch District 9 again out of a similarity-nostalgia in the whole "grim gritty sci-fi here on Earth", but the story was all Independence Day, minus campy humor.
It wasn't gory at all compared to District 9. It's plenty violent, of course, but the gore never exceeds bloody clothes or bandages. It's not gratuitous in the slightest.
I enjoyed it and recommend it as a diverting flick. In review of the plotline, it was nothing original, but I was never bored. :3
Phew, okay. District 9 hit all my sympathy-pain squicks (the fingernails; oh god, when he was losing his fingernails I about died ;.; ) for all it was an awesome flick in general XD
Thanks for the heads up and recap, I'll totally look it up =D I'm glad I got the right vibe :: laughs :: Though I'll probably MISS the campy humor. That's what made ID4 special <3
It has it's funny moments, no fear, but it's in banter between the marines mostly. There's also one little moment I really liked as an animation detail, you can miss it it's so quick, where one of the aliens catches a thrown grenade and you can tell it has a moment of "???" before the kaboom. XD
Camp humor honestly would have ruined this movie. ID4 was great as it was, and Battle:LA is great as it is. It focuses on one marine unit and gets you really involved in just their struggle. Quite moving. <3
