i had that same thing when i decided to make a new xanga. the reason i write things is to get them out, but it seems unimportant, pointless, and for the most part, nonexistant, if i don't show it to someone. that's why i have a protected list, and i have my best friends on it. i don't really talk to my friends much.. i'm a hermit and i hate using the phone, and no one really goes on aim anymore. so posting protected entries gives them the chance to catch up with my life, should they want to, and stay close with how i'm doing.. even if we don't actually talk
