why is it that rupert murdoch's fox broadcasting behemoth, considered by anyone with basic literacy fundamentals to be a neo conservative hype machine, has the most depraved and questionable programming? (the simple life, trading spouses, anyone of those "who wants to marry" programs etc.) in an election apparently swung by voters with "moral ( Read more... )

my theory is this; fox is motivated by profit, and don't really care what they show as long as people watch. this of course influences their blatant political agenda... they would never alienate undecideds or moderates by being overtly anti-gay or anti-abortion, but it's clear that a lot of their viewers are. if fox has a foremost agenda, it's the one true republican fundamental, ie. making money... but what remains is this, fox is watched by predominantly republican viewers, who inadvertently encourage cash hungry network execs to show morally bankrupt programming by continually giving trash tv high ratings. the republican base, seemingly made up of people willing to vote on "moral issues", seem to forget about their "christian beliefs" as soon as they're distracted by someone getting shit on by a horse for $50000. this is to say nothing of the semi-recent surge of "infotainment" on the fox news channel. my best guess is that a large portion of these supposed religious fanatics, purported to have tipped the balance in this latest ( ... )

addendum: fox very rarely has complaints about the content of their programming. these republican viewers, a large portion of whom are undoubtedly SERIOUSLY religious, rarely take issue with the unabashedly sinful, hedonistic behavior being broadcast into their homes. but they sure hate those "fucking faggots."

Has fox ever had a show featuring a gay lead character? I can't think of any off the top of my head. but then again I don't much care for fox outside of the OC and the Simpsons. Oh wait isn't there a gay character during their sunday afternoon football games? No, football is totally hetero. forgot.

arrested development is a great show on fox... i'll bring it down with me next week... as for the gay character thing, i'm sure there are some... even if there aren't, what i mean is they would never admit to anything one way or another with regard to how they feel about gays and abortion. i might assume that while most of the people that control what goes on the air do in fact have those opinions, they are smart enough as businessmen to know not to air their dirty laundry in public.

"shit on by a horse for $50000" I love it, hosted by Regis.

Maybe its the democrats that watch the republican garbage so they can have a good laugh and then go back to their quality programming. The republicans meanwhile are too busy studying the bible.

more than half of fox news viewers describe themselves as "conservative"... cnn used to be watched predominantly by republicans but that has changed since fox started beating the shit out of them in the ratings race...

Hah, maybe Murdoch and co. realize that the people most likely to vote Republican (ie. stupid, uneducated, ignorant) are more likely to be drawn to crass, sensationalistic programming, and from there can be directed to Fox's "news" instruments.

i'm pretty sure that has something to do with it, i just take issue with the the assholes who go to church, hate gays and watch fear factor.

Watching Fear Factor I don't think is too hypocritical - it's pretty straight-ahead bikini-clad exploitation. Now, the church-going assholes who watch gay love triangles on Jerry Springer, THAT's a different story.

could be they're just sexually and emotionally repressed, and the shoddy programming on fox is the most convenient outlet for their frustrated sexual energy...
