Our family dog Chachi passed away several days ago, just a couple of months short of his 19th birthday - a pretty good run for a dog. We've had him since I was 10 years old; he was our first (and so far only) "long-term dog". He'd been going blind and deaf for some time, and would occasionally stand and stare at a wall or a corner for long periods ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear of your loss. He looks like a cutie.

...also, I didn't even know dogs could live to 19! I thought they tended to max out in the mid-teens.

Mid-teens is about average for most smaller breeds, but mixed breed dogs tend to have a somewhat longer life span, hence Old Man Chachi!

YOU ARE WELCOME, O AMBASSADOR OF MUTTS. <3 Thanks for the good thoughts! We'll be hanging up Chachi's stocking in his memory this Christmas, since his birthday was Christmas Eve (one day before Z-mas!).

Sorry for the loss. We just lost ours too so I feel the pain. But I'm glad that he didn't suffer needlessly. I'll miss the little bundle of evil who eventually became bundle of cuteness. He had a good LONG life.
