A thought about Amy Pond

Inspired by papilo_luna's post (who I'm not going to link to, because I don't think anyone other than me who reads my LJ can see hers), I was thinking a bit about Amy Pond. She's a really weird character.

Amy is fascinating me in general - even if I don't know yet why the Doctor wants to travel with her and I wouldn't want to hang with her - mainly because we've seen her house 3 times now and not once have we seen any sort of parental figure and she seems to have exactly 2 friends.

Here she is, the night before her wedding, and she was doing the same thing she always does - sleeping alone in her rather scary house. No friends or family in town to visit her, no bachlorette party, nothing but another day for her...

My initial thought is that the visit from the Doctor when she was a kid is what messed her up, but it's obvious that she was confuddled before then. She was living by herself (OK, there was an aunt, but she hasn't been seen and Amy was rather proficient at cooking and she didn't have any worry about what would happen when she returned and there was a strange man in the house and lots of food gone , making me think that this wasn't the first time she's been left to fend for herself.) and dealing with this weird crack in her wall. Maybe it's just the fairy tale image they're going for, but it's hard to not think that there's something going on beyond the obvious with her. I'm not quite sure if I like her, but I'm definitely fascinated by the character.
