I just wrote a review about
Free Zone and the power went out.
I shall try to rewrite.
So I watched it earlier today. Not impressed. I really don't understand why there was such a big fuss over this movie.
While it was interesting to see how the situation in the middle east affected different people from different origins, the storyline in itself was worthless. I just didn't get the point. Was Gitai trying to say that nothing will ever change no matter what we do? Maybe. But it leaves the viewers feeling like they've gained nothing out of watching this movie. Or maybe it's just me.
The acting? It was ok. Nothing spectacular. Definitely not worthy of the best actress award Laszlo got at Cannes. Natalie Portman was good. But she's Natalie Portman.
The thing that bothered me the most was the portrayal of the security guards at the border crossing with Jordan. While I've never been to Jordan myself, I have crossed the border to Egypt many times and I can tell you this - they don't act like that. That scene was not serious. It felt like they took it out of a satire film like
Mivtza Savta or somesuch.
Overall - that's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.
