Higurashi no Naku Koro ni [PC Game] -- In Progress English Patch

Dec 25, 2007 21:26

There's good news for Higurashi fans. :) There's a new group working on an English patch for the original sound novels. To my knowledge, there has been a patch made for Minagoroshi-hen (and maybe Matsuribayashi-hen?) in the past, and part of Onikakushi-hen. This new group intends to do the whole series, though it's going to take awhile (and ( Read more... )

I hope this patch is better than the old group's release >>;; that was pretty terrible. I have yet to try this person's patch, but I will at some point.

I've never seen the other patch, but this one seems to be pretty good quality. The only thing that bugs me is the way they render some of Rena's language. Like "kyuute" and I think they turn "Hauu" into "Hoo" which just makes me think of Hard Gay. XD

It was... pretty bad D: their translation of the first line went something like "If it were in any way torn up, I think it would be best to get someplace safe."

...............yeeeeah.

Started playing this new patch, though, and it looks quite promising :D

Oh, and ESC brings up the save/load/etc menu, and ctrl skips through the text :3 space bar also advances text.

Demos... anonymous December 26 2007, 15:16:24 UTC
About the demos in the official site...
Mirrors 7 and 8 don't really work... I keep getting a "NOT AUTHORIZED" page. Is it just my computer or...?

I think the one I downloaded from was 7, so it worked for me. It might be a temporary problem, or it could be your computer ...? Do any of the other mirrors work?

After you've downloaded the patch, extract it into a subfolder of the game, and then start the game by clicking on onscripter-en.exe in the patch folder. :)

It still freezes? anonymous January 12 2008, 21:33:47 UTC
So there's still a halting problem, with Vista? Crap.
Which scenes does the game freeze on? Does it consistently fail on particular scenes? I'd like to get it working correctly.

It doesn't freeze in any particular place over and over again. It seems to be just random and periodic. Like if you played for more than 20 minutes or so it might happen. And when it does happen, it's almost always during transitions from scene to scene. Like, the background picture will load, but the text will never come, and then you get a Not Responding message.

I'm not sure if it's a Vista problem specifically, but that is what I was running it on. I actually didn't find it too much of a bother (once I got into the habit of frequent saves), which is why I never mentioned it on the forum (this is June 1983 by the way).

Hmm... it sounds like the same problem I encountered and thought I'd fixed. Did you try the more recent onscripter? http://rapidshare.com/files/76891879/onscripter-en.zip

Just making sure.

I downloaded it after you had posted the fix (a few days before Christmas), so as long as the new onscriptor was in the download for the demo version of the patch, I have it.
