PGP is killing me

So after installing, again, and running PGP for a few days with no problems, suddenly, again, it is asking me to locate the installation package which is no longer available because I, you know, cleared my temp folder. Why it needs the install package to run the program is beyond me ( Read more... )

Are you using a GUI? That should make it a bit easier..I used Cryptophane last year and recall that it was easy to import keys

I hate PGP too. Trying to fool with always seems to result in a hit to my geek-cred at best, or tearing out more hair I can ill afford to lose at worst.

I don't have any tips, just commiserations that you are not alone in finding the thing frequently frustrating.

Yeah, that's why I quit using PGP, too. I was only doing the PGP thing 'cuz it was a geek thing to do ('cuz I could) and also to clog the gummint's early attempts to monitor web communications (I also had all of the Echelon keywords in my email signature). Their machinery got better and I got bored, plus I'm not doing anything that needs to be cloaked. Most is boring, and what isn't is likely so random that it's indecipherable. The really interesting stuff stays in my head where it belongs. I assume that something, be it machine or human, is reading everything electronic, so there's a definite quiet amusement in the thought that I might be confusing the crap out of some bot or boring some janitor-level spook to tears. ;o)

GPG + Thunderbird + Enigmail = happiness. Simple to install & transparent to use.

I use Google Mail, and all I need to do is encrypt files, not emails. Thanks anyway though, for the recommendation.

Oh, in that case you just need FireGPG:
