    This semester has been strange.  I'm beginning to wonder about the rest of my scholarly career.  I'm taking 18.5 credits, which isn't hard, just time consuming.  I took an upper level class in which i understand the material completely and am able to complete the work with ease.  The same goes for the other classes i'm in.  However, i'm doing

Honestly, if you take a year off, you won't come back. Happens all the time. Maybe you just need to figure out what you really want to do with your life. Maybe you don't want to be an English teacher or whatever if you can't even make yourself do the work. Sounds to me like you ought to be a philosopher. Anyway, you're just in a funk. Perhaps you'll snap out of it around the second semester of your junior year.

not necessarily. i took a year off before college, and everybody told me that if i took a year off there was no way i'd ever go to college. everyone said that people who take a 'year off before college' never end up going, but here i am.

Brother, I have yet to charge off into this journey we call "after highschool". But I feel the exact same way (about getting whisked away, or going to a fantasy world, with somewhat more simple ideals)it plauges me at times too. It just sounds to me that you are growing into a new man, a more aware and mature man at that. Take time to soul search. This society tells us we are rushed to get a good college education and "start" our life up right after high-school. Personally, I believe thats utter bullshit. We do have all the time in the world, dont let society get you down. I am going through the same kind of feeling that you are expierencing as well.
