“What is that?”  Reishin narrowed his eyes. Kouyuu followed his gaze to the wide oak desk next to the window of Reishin’s study, and the large white blob stretched across it.

“Its name is Reirei,” he said apologetically. “I adopted him, but...”

“Why is it on my desk?” Reishin demanded.

Kouyuu hesitantly reached for it. The blob opened an eye and stared at Kouyuu imperiously. Kouyuu faltered. “He, um, doesn’t want to move right now.”

Reishin stared at them levelly. “I may be mistaken,” he said, “but I had previously assumed you capable of taking control of a small animal.”

Kouyuu flushed. “He’s very, er, adamant. He doesn’t like people to move him.”

Reishin rolled eyes eyes. “Honestly,” he huffed and reached towards the cat.

Reirei growled, long, low, and threatening. Reishin’s fingers curled back. “Perhaps he can stay there a while longer,” he decided.

Kouyuu had gotten the cat from Shuuei, whose brother had given it to him apparently as a prank.

“And you took it why?” Reishin asked, studiously ignoring Reirei, who had settled his massive girth across the dining table and was lazily inspecting the bowl of oranges.

“I thought he would be good company for Kouyuu-chan?” Kouyuu ventured. As if on cue, Reishin’s psychotic kitten leapt onto the table, made a spirited attack on Reirei’s ear, then dashed out of the room as if his tail were on fire before Reirei could so much as lift a paw.
