1. Character's Name: Sollux Captor
2. Fandom: MSPaint Adventures/Homestuck
3. Time Frame: After Karkat's 2tupiid brilliant plan to troll the humans; shortly into arc 5.2
4. Age: 6 solar sweeps (around 13 earth years)
5. Background: Oh man. Homestuck is a clusterfuck of non-linear confusion. I will try to keep this in the order Sollux experienced it in.
Trolls aren't born like humans are, instead the
Mother Grub combines genetic material from various adult Trolls into "one diabolical incestuous slurry" and lays many, many eggs. (The Trolls in Homestuck aren't quite created this way--they were made as paradox clones, which then later went back to take over the lives of the cloned being...so they still started as wrigglers, but in a way Karkat, who made the clones, is everyone's daddy.) When the eggs hatch, young
wigglers emerge--these are beings similar to caterpillars with little troll heads--and then find a stalactite to form a cocoon on. Once the cocoon hatches, the Troll (now humanoid) must survive a series of dangerous trials (which are not revealed anywhere in canon, but are surely fraught with peril) and find a caretaker, or Lusus. Adult trolls are too busy trying to rule the universe and kill shit to take care of raising kids, so the young are left to construct their homes ("Hives") and be raised by the Lusii. Sollux's Lusus is the Bicyclops, a large being with two heads.
Sollux's life up until the beginning of Hivebent (Homestuck act 5.1) is mostly unknown, but he lives in a "communal hive stem" (like an apartment building) with his Lusus and a lot of game and computers made of bee-hives. No, you did not read that wrong. The "Beehouse Mainframes," in addition to being computers, are used to cultivate mind honey which must not be eaten under any circumstance Sollux feeds to his Lusus once a day. This keeps it from being a complete idiot all the time (only most of the time, instead). At the start--from his perspective--of the story, Sollux is a well-known hacker and has written a number of viruses and programs, some of which he's shared with other Trolls.
At one point in a cycle of bitchary and revenge, he's used by a mind controlling huge bitch to kill his then-girlfriend, Aradia. But she gets over it and he helps get revenge, eventually a truce is called, and everyone lives happily ever afterthing goes back to normal...or as normal as it ever is for Trolls. Aradia and Sollux appear to remain friends after this, but their relationship turns more platonic.
The Troll's version of Sburb, Sgrub, aka the game that fucks over everything, was created by Sollux using information found in ancient ruins by Aradia. She led him to believe that the game would save their race, so he set up a session with the twelve trolls in two teams (Red & Blue). Originally Sollux planned to be the leader of the Blue team, and thus the first one in for them, but was prevented from doing so. He was actually the last one to enter, but we'll get to that in a moment.
The game Sburb is linked to the world's death; its uncertain if playing the game destroys the world or if it'd happen otherwise, but the result is still the same. The game is played, the world is destroyed, and a group of players gets a chance to save their race...or die miserably. The first stages of the world's destruction are thousands of meteors hitting the planet, which leads to mass destruction and death.
By playing the game, the players are sent into an alternate realm ("The Medium"), where they travel between different worlds in an attempt to survive and defeat the Black Kingdom. If they succeed, they create a new universe. In the Medium, and perhaps in the original world, exist two moons of the main planet ("Skaia"). On these moons, the player's "Dream selves" exist. At some point in their lives, either before or after starting the game, a player's Dream Self will "wake up," allowing them to interact with the landscape on these moons and remember what had taken place there while they're asleep. Also sometimes they see the future. Normally each player has only one Dream Self, but Sollux is special in that he gets two: one for each moon. Also notable for the set up, is that there existed
a creature who's cry ("the Vast Glub") could kill all the Trolls in existence.
Shortly after Karkat, the leader of the Red team, started up the game and was sent into the Medium, Sollux planned to enter the game. He was unable to at that time, however, because Aradia--acting on advice from mysterious voices--put him to sleep with her magic psychic powers. By the time Sollux awoke, almost everyone else had already started and the world was very near to its destruction. He quickly signed in, guided a Troll girl by the name of Feferi into the Medium, and hooked up with Karkat to get himself in...but was unable to enter before the Vast Glub. But not to worry, because once one is in the Medium they can be brought back to life with their Dream Self! (How this works is unclear, but it involves someone living kissing the dead body and that the Dream Self, obviously, is still alive.) Feferi (somehow, it isn't shown) manages to make her way to Sollux's planet and revive him!
And, sadly, canon gets really sketchy again here. The two teams of Trolls unite to form one team (lead by Karkat), battle and trick their way through the Medium and manage to dethrone the Black Queen and destroy the Black King, thus winning the game. Its surely epic and inspiring, but almost none of their session aside from the beginning is shown. What is revealed, however, is that once they defeat the Black King and go to claim their prize--entrance into the new universe and a chance to continue their species--things go even more horribly wrong. A new power comes out of nowhere, destroys the gateway to the new universe and threatens to destroy the Trolls. They--mostly due to Aradia and her vast army of future robot selves--narrowly manage to escape and hide out on one of a number of asteroids in a belt on the outer edges of the Medium known as "the Veil." After finding a place to hide, Sollux starts to set up a computer network on it. This is presumably so they can continue to send snarky messages at each other (at least until everyone dies!), but it soon reveals the existence of life in the universe they created. Humans! Because four of these Humans later go on to play their own session of Sburb, the Trolls are able to watch their entire lives and communicate with them via IMs. Its also found that it was events in the Humans' session that cause the Trolls to lose their ultimate reward. Realizing this, Karkat hatches a retarded brilliant plan: to troll them to hell and back.
Sollux is unimpressed with this plan and refuses to take place, but he does continue to set up and maintain the computer network. At least until he's whisked into yet another world.
6. Personality: Sollux is bipolar, or something similar to it; he has mood swings and is prone to beating himself up (often for no good reason). He's somewhat introverted, but not to the extent where he shuns conversation (more so avoiding things seen as juvenile and keeping emotional distance from people). As with all the trolls, he's prone to anger and possible bouts of violence, but doesn't seem to have much of an issue with the latter. Instead he's snarky and bitchy to people. He's also occasionally oversensitive about things, taking more offense from them than was intended.
And he's got a thing for bifurcation, often splitting things into twos (red & blue, of course). This is obvious in his writing quirk, where he duplicates all Is, replaces "to" and "too" with "two" and replaces Ses with 2s (this last one also represents the fact that he has a lii2p lisp).
7. Previous Game Developments: N/A
8. Appearance: Trolls, as a species, are generally very human-like. They have two arms, two legs, a head and a trunk (at least once they get past the wiggler-stage). Their skin is gray, their hair all seems to be black, they all have orange and yellow horns (usually just one pair) and sharp pointy teeth.
Sollux has two pairs of horns, one red eye and one blue eye, and dresses in a black shirt with a yellow gemini symbol on it, grey pants, one black shoe and one white shoe.
9. Abilities: Sollux is, and I quote, "apeshit bananas at computers" and "a TOTALLY SICK HACKER." He's also a high level psionic, which seems to mean he has telekinesis and can fly (probably with the telekinesis). And he has eye beams! These will be dumbed down considerably (his eyebeams may, at most, slightly singe something, and the telekinesis will be very draining and limited to objects weighing no more than he does. Flights will be short ;;).
Sollux has voices in his head can also hear the voices of the "imminently deceased" and has "vision twofold" (which seems to be visions about terrible futures. Both universes are also shown in his sunglasses, but its unclear if this is stylistic or if it means anything). Because that involves too much modly input/may be game-breaking it will be flipped off while at the Keep. He'll still have voices, but will be unable to make any of them out so they will generally just be a source of annoyance.
And at one point he puts a bunch of bees to sleep, but its uncertain if this extends to anything else so Imma ignore it/say its locked.
10. Languages: Common.
The trolls have no trouble communicating with the humans, who seem to speak English, over IMs. There seems to be a different alphabet in Hivebent, but English letters are also shown. Imma just say Common speaking and writing cause its easier.
11. Items: Clothes, Blue & Red sunglasses, and
this thing, which is a portable IMing thingy. It probably won't work.
12. Weapons: A high level psionic has no use for any particular specibus allocation None
13. Writing sample - Third Person Prose: Sollux wondered why he ever agreed to do this in the first place. The computers on this useless rock were hunks of shit that they may never get up and running before the end happened. Was Karkat's plan really worth all this trouble? Troll a bunch of incompetent and already doomed aliens? That was the best their fearless leader could come up with? Of course it would have been stupid to expect anything else. This was the sort of thing Karkat did all the time, and Sollux was just being an idiot himself if he thought a good plan would come out of it.
Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupiid.
But maybe getting Karkat to shut his chitinous fucking windhole for once was worth it on its own. He could get some...well, not any silence, but maybe he could be left alone to get some fucking work done and wait to die with dignity. Or without dignity, since that was probably really asking too much at this point. As if trolls ever had dignity in the first place. At least not these worthless assholes, of which Sollux was sure he was probably the most worthless of them all.
But not the biggest asshole. That title was still up for grabs.
"Ah, fuck!" Sollux let out a curse and jerked backwards, away from the wires he was untangling.
Some idiot thought leaving a live wire laying around was a good idea, or did he just stupidly blunder onto one when he wasn't paying as much attention as he should have been. Not that it hurt much, but it was fucking aggravating and...was one of those idiots laughing at him? He had half a mind to let one of those other assholes do this, but they'd just fuck it up worse. No, he would do it, and he would do it right.
Even if no one ever fucking appreciated anything he did around here.
14. Writing sample - First Person Prose: *The record starts out in audio, with the rustling of pages and sounds of something being moved around.*
--can't believe they thought this--
*There's a pause, some more shuffling and it switches over to sadly uncoloured text.*
