In all seriousness... look around you and seriously tell me how much of human behavior is based on rational expectation for the future, and then tell me how much it benefits us to really try to forecast the future based on the past. I not only agree with assessment (intoxicated ramblings or not), but I'd go one further and dare to say that's one of the defining characteristics of being human.
