tofu question

do you eat tofu/know about food spoilage? help!

i have a sealed package of tofu in my fridge (the stop & shop wholefoodsy brand in "firm" if that matters). said tofu has a "sell by/best if used by" (can't remember which) date of 8/30 or 8/31. today is 9/6, so it's about a week past due. should this be ok to eat today, cooked, or should i toss it?

I've never let tofu go that long, ha ha, but I believe that it would smell/taste obviously funky/spoiled if it was bad. It's waterpacked right?

On the other hand, when in doubt throw it out, etc. But I'd probably use it if it smelled OK.

I'm sure it's fine. And if it isn't you'll know.

yeah, i had the exact same thing happen to me. i opened it and it smelled funny to me so i tossed it. with my pretty weak stomach, i'm better safe than sorry.

smell it. if you gag, don't eat it.

(that's pretty much a law in my life.)

if it's slimy with yellowish slime after you rinse it off, or if it smells sour, it's a no go. otherwise, eat it.
