I've always appreciated my friends' various talents, but I never dreamed... I stayed up Monday night and read all the entries to date, and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. This is a riot! :) Macte virtute!

Magnas gratias tibi ago! And "coffeae"? Have you jumped to the Neo-Latin camp? Shame!

Well, according to the Internet - a veritable modern-day Isidore of Seville - the first coffeehouse in Italy didn't open until 1645, so I had no choice but to use the scientific name for coffee: coffea arabica. :)

What about sucus fabae or something? Call me a purist, but I prefer the French method of making up a complicated literal explanation in their own language over adopting a word from another. Excepting, of course, when it comes to proper nouns, in which case I believe that they should be preserved in their original from language to language. For example, in the French version of Harry Potter, the house names and school name should have been left the same as in the English; I see no purpose in making up new ones for the French version. I understand they're making up new ones for the ancient Greek version this summer as well. I know I'm a snob, but it really, really bugs me.
