the young earth

the light falls from her eyes
as she stares into the dying world
lost in fog and echoing strangely
the rain falls and shrouds us
in the mist of when the hills were young

the grass crackled with life and
men stood silent watching fires erupt
from the hands of women who had discovered it all
children ran with the dogs
sticks breaking under their feet with crackling conversation
the clouds were the mothers of all
the sun their lover hidden and distant
wind carried the voices of creation
their secrets captured and blown across the land
so that all may share
so that all may be holy
