Because they are total gits !
I think their web-sites have provision for people to submit story ideas, if you want to give them a prod.

1/ the commercial Current Affair shows are only there to give the illusion of covering news rather than actually cover it. Apart from the fluff stories they only go after little people, small time shonk merchants, rockspiders, politicians abandoned by their party, etc.
2/ The ABC tackles bigger game but they conform to a very set PC criteria, ignoring or explaining away serious problems that lie outside this.
