I was on the hunt for a DVD recorder to replace my current machine which has stuffed up way too early but was surprised to find what was on offer. When I last looked a bit over a years warrenty ago, there were mainly HDD + recorder machines available, with DVD recorder only standalone machines sitting sadly down the back ( Read more... )

Locutus bought a Samsung years ago,
and it is still running fine,
while both of us have had multiple machines die on us.

When the recession first hit,
there was meant to be a lot of price competition.
But with the 2 stimulus packages,
they may feel safe enough to keep the prices high.

One wonders. I may still go with the current lashup I have now, where I use the HDD drive machine to record off air (that bit still works fine) and then record from that or from the VHS recorder onto the DVD only recorder usung DVD+RW discs, from which I copy files and burn a good DVD using the computer
