Adjusting to heat??

I just started working at a drive-through coffee stand. I love it, except that there is no AC and it's easily 15-20 degrees hotter in there than outside due to all the machines pumping hot air. The forcast has been in the mid 80s and I've had a hard time staying concious at work. I fall into these shaky nauseous dizzy spells because it's so hot ( Read more... )

Damn, that's kinda scary. I wish I had a good idea, but after all, I am homegrown of western WA...

Maybe keep icepacks in the freezer and use them throughout the day? They might be too localized to really help, but that's all I can think of. A little fan, maybe. Ask your boss for help because I'm sure they don't want to have you pass out and hurt yourself and then have to deal with L&I.

Yeah, you'd think L&I would be an issue. Apparently they haven't had AC for years. I think the manager could see the fear in my eyes as she was warning me about how hot it gets in there, because her husband installed a new air conditioner today.

Oh good.. I've never gotten anyone to try my methods and so was not entirely certain that it would work for other people. I mean, I learned it from others who do these things, but they were natives of the South.

just become a fremen from frank herbert's dune. also: as abovely mentioned, keeping your body sweating regularly will help regulate body temperature better in crazier situations. if you did before, don't wear anti persperent (sp) now.

My favorite hot weather thing to do is a very ghetto trick from Georgia days. Take a ziploc and fill it with ice, but that ziploc in a grocery bag so it doesn't "sweat" on you and then tie the grocery bag around your neck.
You can refill the ice once it melts and isn't cold anymore.
