Pairing/Focus: Jonghyun/Key, Jonghyun/Jessica
Summary: Key and Jonghyun are best friends, but what happens when Jonghyun gets a girlfriend Key hates? Will they fall closer together or hang loose for the rest of time.

Opening the door to his house, Key threw down his keys on the table. A quick glance at the cable box told him that it was 4:36. “Only two and a half hours,” Key thought, walking over to the kitchen. He unhooked his pink apron from the closet, tying it tight around his slim waist. Cooking would occupy his attention and keep his wandering mind from wondering about Jonghyun.

“I can‘t believe we‘re here,” Jessica shrieked as they entered the newly opened café. “How did you know I wanted to come?”

How did Jonghyun not know his girlfriend wanted to come to the café, it was all she talked about on their walk home yesterday. Café this and café that, god it started to give him a headache.

Going home with Key had always been a blast, they would talk about every and anything that popped into their heads. Whether it be about celebrity idols or the true meaning of life, Jonghyun enjoyed the company. This week he barely spoke to his Bummie without interruptions from a certain blonde girl. She acted as if she was his shadow, following him twenty four/ seven, stealing the valuable time between Key and himself that he cherished deeply. Jessica locked down his phone whenever they were together claiming that it would be a disruption. Luckily, Key understood Jonghyun’s situation and wasn’t upset at their lack of conversation.

Unfortunately, it seemed as if the missing boy was all Jonghyun could think of while on his dates. How he missed his dark asymmetrical haircut with flurries of bright colors. He missed his laugh, his smile, his company.

“Jonghyun, hello are you there?” Jessica waved her hand in his face trying to get a reaction.
“Huh?” Jonghyun replied shaking his head of thoughts of Key to focus on reality.
“I said are you ready order.”

The waiter for their table- Minho the nametag read- stood, pen posed against the pad ready for the couple’s menu choice. Jessica ordered a Caesar salad with a iced tea and Jonghyun just shook his head saying he wasn’t very hungry. Actually this was a lie because Jonghyun was starving but didn’t want to fill his stomach with food from the café and not have room for all the wonder treats Key would be fixing for their weekly movie night.

As the waiter walked away to place their orders to the chief, Jonghyun’s phone rang., an envelope icon appearing on the screen asking if he would like to view the new text message from Bummie My Wifey <3 now or later. Jonghyun clicked the “now “ button and the message from Key flashed onto the screen.

From: Bummie My Wifey <3
Jjong don’t 4get 2 bring the movies b4 u come over n make sur they don’t suck this time!!!!!

From: My husband Jjong:)
Not 2 worry babe I hav it all under control

“Who texted you,” Jessica questioned, leaning over the table in an attempt to read what the message said. Neck stretched, eyes straining to see the phone.

“Just Kibummie,” he responded nonchalantly placing his phone back in his backpack.

“Oh and what did he say?” She her anger starting to boil just by the small mention of Kim Kibum. Hands gripped the side of the table wringing the hanging cloth.

“Nothing much just reminding me to pick up a few movies for tonight”

“What about our date?”

“Don’t worry we still have an hour together, I‘m not meeting up with him til 7.” Oh no she was not going to lose to that boy another time. It was time for Jonghyun to decide who was more important to him, Her or Key.

“Jonghyun no, if you go to Key‘s house tonight you and me are over,” Jessica stated, a serious expression present. She couldn’t stand anymore of Jonghyun’s stories telling about how wonder “his Bummie” is and how much fun they had together. At this moment all would be revealed and she would found out where she stood with Jonghyun.

“What do you mean,” Jonghyun stuttered not able to grasp Jessica’s last statement. Did she really want him to pick who he liked better?

“Choose Jonghyun, it‘s either me or Key.”

Before his brain could even think he responded “Kibum,” his heart had spoken his true love’s name and without another word he grabbed his coat, and slung his backpack on his shoulder. Walking out the front door Jonghyun left a shocked Jessica to eat alone.

Busy with removing the newly baked cookies from the oven, Key barely heard the faint knock at the door. Knowing the knocker was none other then Jonghyun, Key skipped over to answer the door. There he stood promised movie rentals in hand but Key could tell something was wrong. The look Jonghyun wore a few days ago,: head tilted down, eyes dazed, the look that broke Key’s heart every time was plastered on his face. Jonghyun’s features contorted with sadness. He hated to see his best friend like this, in so much pain.

With one hand Key gently caressed the other’s cheek bringing Jonghun’s eyes to meet his. A small smile flickered across Jonghyun’s face, sending Key’s heart flutter. No words were needed as Key slipped his hand into Jonghyun’s intertwining the two’s fingers leading the lifeless body to the couch. Like clockwork, Jonghyun’s head found its way to Key’s lap enjoying how nature the feeling felt. Automatically the younger boy began playing with the brunette’s hair, carefully stroking and running his hands though the chocolate brown strands. Usually Jonghyun hated physically contact with others (including Jessica) but always loved the warm touch of his best friend. Slowly he relaxed, leaning into Key’s embrace, munching on a freshly made chocolate chip cookie.

After what seemed like hours, Key finally mustered up the courage to ask what happened to Jonghyun.
“We broke up,” he declared simply, the three words hung in the air as the awkward silence encompassed the two. Key didn’t know how to respond but soon gave into his gossip needing self.

“Why?”
“She made me choose and I picked you.”

Key felt tears run down his own cheeks, knowing he was the cause of his friend’s misfortune. Secretly he couldn’t suppress the joy of the break up because that meant Jonghyun would becomes only his once again. Just like any good friend Jonghyun could see Key’s private happiness on the news and answered the other’s silent question, “Key I was always yours and no one else’s. ”

Surprised at how Jonghyun knew what he was thinking, Key croaked out “Why me then? I mean she is extremely cute and sexy dressed in mini-shirts and and I‘m just …me.”

This time it was Key’s turn to look away, embarrassed of what he had asked, a blush gradually found its way to Key’s cheeks causing the boy to turn a deep shade of red. Jonghyun sat up and turned Key’s face to look at him.
“She‘s no you. I would give anything to see you everyday even in your cute little pink apron.”

Drifting forward the two’s lips pressed together creating a sweet and passionate kiss that expressed all the feelings each boy had for the other.
