Fred and I like to frequent the Book Swap Shed at our municipal recycling center -- you never know what odd items are going to turn up. A couple of weeks ago, I came across a 1944 edition of The Newspaper Institute of America Handbook for Writers; it's in rotten shape, but I thought it might have some bearing on the Letters Project given my ( Read more... )

OMG, I was so busy feeling amused about the bearnigs that I never even noticed poor Lance Writer, languishing somewhere between pages 397 and 409!

I suspect there's a global shortage of bearnigs, based on how messed up our world is at present!

(BTW, I wish I'd brought my camera and/or binocs to work today, as there's some sort of tree -- arborday.org's tree identifier is telling me that it's some sort of Ash -- outside my office window that's absolutely loaded with little red fruits, and the birds have just been going nuts over it.)

Almost certainly Mountain Ash, also known as Rowan. A very, very fine tree all around.

I don't think I knew that that's what a Rowan tree was -- somehow, that makes my view out the window even nicer. :-)
