::Your Character::
Name: Kohana Sohma.
Age: Fifteen (May 15th; Gemini).
Animal: Monkey.
[Appearance]
Height: Five feet and three inches.
Weight: 110lbs.
Eye color: Green.
Hair: Pink, and down to her shoulders, and she is letting it grow out slowly now; she used to have much longer hair when she was younger, but cut it just before moving to the Sohma main house, saying it was to recognize moving onto a new part of her life, and has kept it around above shoulder length since then, up until recently.
Figure: She's frail in build, and quite petite (more so 'scrawny') over all; this is probably because she's always been somewhat ill, and was sick a lot when she was a little girl.
[Personality]
Kohana is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, when it comes down to it. She doesn't believe in judging anyone without giving them a chance, even people she has heard bad things about; she is the type of person who needs to judge an individual on her own terms, and come to her own conclusion. She somewhat believes that everyone has some good in them, but this has been proven wrong to her on a couple of occasions, which she'd rather forget. She is always up for new friends, or having fun, and usually meets anyone and everyone with a smile and cordial 'hello'. She cares a lot about her family, her cat and her friends, and absolutely adores animals; she is a vegetarian and thinks animal abuse is one of the worst things a person can do.
She never forgives anyone who harms an animal, and when she was younger, she was scolded quite a bit by her father for bringing home a lot of stray animals and trying to hide them in her bedroom. Eventually, he bought her the current cat she has, Hayner, in an attempt to get her to stop. It didn't work, but she's had Hayner at her side ever since. Kohana can be quite perceptive to the feelings of others, and quite good at understanding her peers and friends, when the time calls for it. She is can also be rather manipulative at times, and good at talking people into doing what she desires of them; this especially applies to her father.
In addition to animals, Kohana loves art and things of that sort; she's drawn things since she was a little girl, and she is a pretty good artist, known to sit outside on the porch off of her bedroom, just drawing in a sketchbook and relaxing. Another thing she really enjoys is video games; she can't seem to get enough of them, and is always wasting her money at the local arcade when ever she has any, and hasn't spent it on art supplies or treats for Hayner. She loves her younger brother, Shiichi, more than anybody in the world and often buys him presents and visits him or takes him places, though she resides in the Sohma main house and he does not. She can be a bit blunt and forward with things, and not really realize she's doing so; Kohana is simply the type of individual who doesn't think before she speaks, and often ends up with her foot in her mouth after the fact.
She was sick a lot when she was little, and still is, and has to take medicine for her heart, which is quite weak. She often has to visit the Sohma family doctor for check ups (more than a usual person, of course), or have surgeries at the local hospital, and it's been this way from the time she was small. She, however, does not let this get her down and is still a very content and loving girl. She tries to ignore her illness, and is just like any other happy teenage girl really, and always has been pretty normal and happy; even when she couldn't physically keep up and run along with the other children when she was a child.
One of the only things that upsets Kohana is being away from her father and her little brother, since she loves them so dearly. It was her personal choice to come and live at the main house though, and she realizes that, and stands by her decision, which was made for her own reasons. It doesn't stop her from missing them though. Kohana also has a small bit of puppy love for Shina Sohma; idolizing the older girl, and often sneaking around the Sohma estate in order to hear the other girl sing, or just say 'hello', even though Shina hardly notices her and seems to think Kohana just another bother in her life, like all the rest of the Sohmas.
[History]
When Jirou Sohma met his future-wife, Kohana, in high school, they fell in love & married soon after graduating. They lived a quiet and peaceful life, though Kohana was somewhat of a sickly girl, and often fell ill and ended up staying in her bed for days on end. After two years of marriage, Kohana became pregnant, and both she and Jirou were filled with joy and pride at the prospect of bringing another member into their little family. Both wanted children badly, and this seemed like a miracle.
However, as things tend to do, the plan went completely off track; Kohana had a rough nine months, and was often sick and in the hospital, even almost losing the baby at one point. In the end, things only got worse, as Kohana passed away during give birth to her little girl. The daughter she gave birth to ended up being one of the cursed Sohma family members; the monkey in the zodiac. But this didn't change a thing for Jirou. In memory of his wife, Jirou named his daughter 'Kohana', after her mother, and took care of her all by myself. Jirou loved his daughter greatly, more than anything in his world, and didn't hold anything against her for what happened to her mother. He knew Kohana would have loved their daughter as much as he did, and that she was most certainly proud 'up' in whatever better place she had arrived at.
All was mostly good for the father and daughter, even though some members of their family stopped talking to Jirou when they discovered he had one of the cursed for his child, and there was also the other typically unpleasant events that surround the cursed Sohmas. That was, until Kohana (who had acquired the name 'Taka-chan' from her friends at preschool, and was quite adamant about being called it, and still is to this day despite her father insisting on calling her by her first name) was about four, when she suddenly became extremely ill one day and fainted at her pre-school. She was rushed to the hospital, and her father rushed there after her, straight from work. It was soon discovered that it was her heart that was causing her trouble.
She went in for surgery, which managed to save her life, but she was never the same since..physically, that is. She has to take medicine and go easy on herself, and is prone to fainting spells. Since then, Kohana always been an ill person, and somewhat weak, which upset her a bit. As a child, she wanted to play with her friends and run around like a regular child, but soon found those things were just out of her reach, due to her condition. When she was smaller this bothered her a lot, but she has grown to understand and accept things moreso as she's grown older. Jirou often worried about his daughter, and did his best to look out for her and make sure she went easy about things from her first operation onward, for her own sake.
From that point on, the Sohma girl lived a somewhat sheltered life (even more sheltered than most cursed children might have), since her father was very protective over her and her actions; maybe because he so desperately feared losing her, as he had lost his wife before her. She had never had a problem socializing, and had a lot of friends (but she knew better than to be too affectionate and end up hugging with any of the boys, because she knew about her 'other condition' as father called it), and was always friendly and outgoing, though what she really adored was spending time with her father and being at his side.
Jirou didn't mind this at all, because he loved his daughter a lot. Even when she was small, she understood his worry and his protective attitude toward her, and they always got along well with each other. They were all each other had, so things balanced out quite well, even though Kohana transformed any time her father picked her up or gave her a hug. It was something they didn't mind themselves, but refrained from in front of others.
When Kohana was eight, her father met another woman, Anko Sohma, and began seeing her. Within the year, the two were happily married, and this was fine with Kohana; she loved Anko, and Anko loved her too, and they both loved Jirou, so they got along well and had quite a quaint little existence, just the three of them, where it had previosuly been two. A fourth addition was added to the family when Anko gave birth to Shiichi Sohma, Kohana's one and only younger brother, whom she loves perhaps even more than she loves her father, the previous pillar of her life. There was only one problem with Shiichi and Kohana, and that was that she couldn't hold him and hug him. Were such things hadn't bothered her with her father, or been an issue at all, it did bother her with Shiichi, and she felt horrible for not being able to be a good big sister and show him affection and love.
It began to gnaw at her endlessly, and she ended up thinking about it a lot more, perhaps more than she ever should have. She felt, for the first time in her life, truly out casted from the family. Jirou, Anko and Shiichi were all 'normal' and could hug each other and show affection, but Kohana felt left out most of the time, since she couldn't do those things. She also felt Shiichi might hate her when he grew up, and realized what a 'freak' she was, as some of the other 'normal' Sohma kids and their parents had done to her in the past.
When Kohana was ten, and her brother one year old, she emerged from her bedroom with all of her hair crudely chopped off just below her ears. Her father had been shocked, and reacted rather harshly, demanding to know what she thought she was doing to herself; until then, Kohana had long pink hair about half way down her back, like her mother's. She had her hair like that since the time she was small, and always seemed to enjoy having it and taking care of it, though some of the other Sohma children had often pulled it when she and her father visited the main house. Kohana told her father that she was ready for a change in her life, and she wanted to move away from home, and live at the main Sohma estate, with the other zodiac members and the head of the family (whom she respected greatly, but also had a little fear for; he seemed kind, but she always felt /something/ behind that smile of his). She told him her hair cutting was symbolic of two things; to represent her life change and leaving her childhood behind, but also so the 'other children' couldn't pull it.
She had decided that she needed to get out there in the world where people were more like her, and suffered the same things as her, and where she could touch other people, too. Secretly, she also believed that it would allow her to grow up some, and get rid of some of the desperate attachment she had to her father. She announced to Jirou that she would be going to the main house, whether he liked it or not (which was new, as she almost /always/ respected her father's washes). It took some arguments between them, and a few dinners where neither would even speak to the other, but eventually Jirou gave in and very reluctantly allowed Kohana to move into the main house, as she wanted to do. She was so very much like his 'other' Kohana, and he only wanted her to be happy.
She has lived there ever since (the last five years), and gets along fairly well with everyone she comes in contact with. She often visits her father's family, almost every second day, and often takes her younger brother out to the movies or out shopping with her. She truly does love her 'real' family, but she has family at the main house too, and she loves them a lot too. She just feels that maybe..they understand her a little better.
Other?:
Kohana is the secretary of the student council at her school, and a part of the debating club. She refers to Loki Sohma as 'Onii-chan', and sometimes calls Hitomi Sohma (who is also her best friend) by 'Onee-sama'. She considers the two to be like the elder siblings she's never had, though they are all cousins.
