Hello all. This is actually for school, so I would apreciate it if those of you who have kindly friended me (Thanks, by the way) would pass this on to other people. I want as broad a range of people as I can get, so the more people who do this, the better. (Please leave a comment after you complete the survey so that I can have a quick tally of how ( Read more... )

Ok, I did your poll, but I think you knew my answers ahead of time! I don't have kids (as you know), but I let YOU watch it...does that count? Ok, I asked your Dad first, but I already knew he would say yes...but I didn't offer to let J watch it...there is an age factor involved for me.

I will post about this in my journal, but since everyone (that I know of) that reads my journal is slash friendly, I think it may unbalance the answers!

And look! I even have a BBM icon!

Hey Mems, I know you have the BBM story with you, but do you know where I could find it over here? It's not at the school library (of course not...) and I want to see if I can use that too. (Am heroically restraining myself from also using the movie. Three BBMs would just be too much. *sigh*)

Well, you could try the public library. It is a short story in an anthology called 'Close Range' by Annie Proulx.

I'm pretty sure I read it on the internet long before the film came out, but I sure can't remember where...let me look around a bit. When is your project due?

Here because of mem's pimping :)

I have strong and well formed opinions about gay rights so, no, the movie did not change them much, at the most it did reinforce my opinion about omosexuality, about love not having colors (and with this I mean sex of course) and it showed me that I can still cry for a love story :)

I hope my replies were somehow useful to you, and good luck with your project!

Also here thanks to Mems. A few of my answers need explaining. Sorry, this is likely to get long, since I've been thinking about Brokeback Mountain a fair bit ( ... )

That you so much for taking part in the pole!

Actually, I do think that the "R" rating was justified (for the exact same reasons), but after thinking about it and takling it over with my mother, we decided that it probably would have gotten the "R" rating anyway.

I think what I was aiming at in the last question (and this is totally my fault, I worded it completely wrong) wasn't so much the society in the film but our society right now. It was focused more on the reaction of people outside the movie than those inside the movie.

But, I like your view. I actually hadn't thought about it that way before, and it kind of opened a new window into the movie.

Thanks again for doing this!!

Hmm, yes, I think I was trying to answer your last question as one about society now, except I didn't say it very well. I'm not sure we can say much about society now from it, because the society then was chosen deliberately to be hostile. Then again, I'm no Lit Scholar to be saying things like that!

Here through Mems...

I loved BBM and it ranks among my favorite movies of all times. It didn't change my opinion on the homosexuality. It totally confirmed it. It's all displayed there: the pain, the awareness, the deep love, the fact that if you think you're gay, you're condemned to fight and struggle for your right to live and love.

The gay rights have been the issue of my strongest commitment since I was a young teenager and I learned about their mere existence.

I'll cross my fingers for your research! :)
