I think Nimoy's a pretty brave dude. In 2007, he published a book of artistic photos of fat women taken by him (The Full Body Project), showing fat women as something other than sexualized/fetishized objects and other than "socially unacceptable, unattractive, lazy drudges." Nimoy himself is not sexually or romantically attracted to fat women, which he made clear in several interviews about the book, but he stands behind his photos as a way of showing fat bodies as artistic and beautiful, and as a way of humanizing fat women. That's a pretty brave stance to take in our fat hating culture. He also went public with his alcoholism and treatment at the same rehab center where William Shatner was a patient. Nimoy has openly stated that he wouldn't have made it through treatment without Shatner's support. I think his struggles with and examination of personal identity - trying to separate himself from the character of Spock, and later accepting that he wouldn't be who he is today without Spock - are
