Hey, all. I'm new...name's Jan. I've been a fan of TTB for a while, and saw it for the first time yesterday in New Brunswick, NJ. It was wonderful...hysterical, and touching...I loved it. I'm pretty sure he was working on them both at the same time, even though there's no mention of Rent in TTB.

It's really quite fascinating, because a lot of the characters in TTB show up in Rent...it's really easy to see what a personal show Rent was for him after seeing TTB. For me, that only makes both those shows even more sad.

Yeah, 'No More' musically sounded a lot like the song 'RENT.' And I can definitley see how Jonathan based the characters Mark and Roger on himself and Mike. It's really weird...I have different perspectives on both shows after seeing it.

Yeah, that definitely happened to me--I liked Rent much more after seeing TTB, actually.

There's a lot of Mike in Benny, too...and Mark is so much like Jonathan that it's creepy. Maureen was actually based on another girlfriend of his--not Susan, but one who really did leave him for a woman.

he actually started writing rent before finishing ttB.. as he got more and more into rent he delayed finishing ttB until a friend heard it and encouraged him to publish it... then he kept working on rent
